# Workspaces

> Manage CData Arc workspaces to isolate flows, control user access, and organize connectors.

**Workspaces** enable you to isolate flow canvases. Connectors and flows that are configured in separate workspaces are held in entirely separate folders on disk, which allows a complete separation of processes for organizational purposes.

Only the connectors from one workspace are displayed at a time, so using multiple workspaces can help reduce clutter on the **Flows** page. For example, a single flow canvas could contain an automated trading process for each of Amazon, Target, and Walmart but these independent flows could also be separated out into new workspaces, as shown in the following image:

![Three workspace cards for Amazon, Target, and Walmart](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/pXe_oAwLTI7MI6MK/26.4/images/Workspaces.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=pXe_oAwLTI7MI6MK\&q=85\&s=ba400c1a80920b263e56fb38b8ad2c27)

Using workspaces to compartmentalize flows also provides a means to easily control the permissions of users and their access to those flows. Using the previous image, the user account assigned to Jenny might have full access to the Amazon workspace, more limited access to the Target workspace, and no access at all to the Walmart workspace. For more information about permissions, see [User Roles](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/settings/user-roles.md).

Connectors in one workspace cannot be connected to connectors from a different workspace.

The [Activity page](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/activity.md) collects and displays data across all workspaces. You can filter by workspace name on the **Messages** tab, but workspaces are treated as functionally the same for application monitoring and management.

## Using the Workspaces Grid

When you click the **Flows** tab, you are presented with the workspaces grid. From here you can perform actions on individual workspaces or use the checkboxes on the [workspace cards](#workspace-cards) to select multiple workspaces on which to perform bulk actions.

![Workspace grid showing multiple workspaces and options](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE/26.4/images/workspace_grid.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE\&q=85\&s=f18f1bd4e1d7e50d1a3212ac946a8ccd)

You can perform the following actions:

* Click ![Refresh icon](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE/26.4/images/workspace_grid_refresh.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE\&q=85\&s=a12af31e69f6781217c93eb9c65eb814) to refresh the selected workspaces (all workspaces if none are selected).
* Click ![Help icon](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0/26.4/images/flows_help.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0\&q=85\&s=5490fe32dad5fde973ad68ffd6ef2e13) to open this documentation in a new browser tab.

  * **Import Workspace**: Opens the **Workspace Import** dialog. Navigate to the `.arc` file you want to import and choose **Open**. Click **Next** to set your workspace import options, then click **Next** to check for conflicts and to complete the import. See [Setting Import Options](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/importing-exporting-flows.md#setting-import-options) and [Resolving Import Conflicts](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/importing-exporting-flows.md#resolving-import-conflicts) for details.
* Click **Export Workspace** to export the selected workspaces into an `.arc` file (only available when at least one workspace card is selected).
* Click **Remove** to delete the selected workspaces (only available when at least one workspace card is selected).
* Click **Deselect** to clear the selected workspace cards (only available when at least one workspace card is selected).

The search bar lets you search for specific workspaces, [connectors](../connectors), connector types, or [Flow APIs](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/flows/flow-api.md).

![Workspace search results](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE/26.4/images/workspace_searchresults.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE\&q=85\&s=4889874828f5935e399b6227758a704c)

Clicking on a result takes you to that object in its workspace card.

Use the **Sort** dropdown to sort the workspace cards by the following criteria. Click **Reset** to return to the default sort order.

* Alphabetical order
* Last modified date
* Last accessed date

## Workspace Cards

Each workspace card is a snapshot view that shows the workspace name along with a count of the connectors, Flow APIs, and users with access to that workspace.

>
> To import a global `.arc` file, use the **Add Workspace** dropdown on the **Flows** page and choose **Import Workspace**.

## Default Workspace

Arc includes a special *Default* workspace that you cannot delete. You are not required to use multiple workspaces because you can configure all flows in the default workspace.

The default workspace stores all of the application data files and configuration files in a `data` folder in the Application Directory. The data and configuration files for any other workspaces are held in a `workspaces` folder in the Application Directory.

## Navigating and Managing Workspaces from a Flow Canvas

From the workspaces grid, click into a workspace.

You can use the top toolbar of a flow canvas to manage your workspaces:

When you find what you are searching for, click it to be taken to the object in the canvas.
* ![Cursor select toggle](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0/26.4/images/flows_cursor_select.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0\&q=85\&s=3e1301bd030ee0a3154208601ea67d03) Use the toggle to set what action the cursor performs. The options are:
  * **Move**: Allows users to click and drag around the canvas to navigate within the canvas. This is the default action.
  * **Multi-Select**: Allows users to draw a rectangle around a group of connectors. This is useful when creating flow APIs or when you need to move or delete multiple connectors at once. Right-click on the rectangle to see the available actions you can take on all the objects in the rectangle.
* ![Undo icon](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0/26.4/images/flows_undo.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0\&q=85\&s=cd3114a7e05488e2ab6c5a0749934def) Undo your most recent action.
* ![Redo icon](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0/26.4/images/flows_redo.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0\&q=85\&s=a7782ce5b98e3485924543a51b4fb08c) Restore a previously undone layout on the canvas.
* ![Save view icon](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0/26.4/images/flows_save_view.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0\&q=85\&s=65c891ecc87df1583bd03cd9d8935ce7) Save the current workspace view.
* ![Auto-format icon](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0/26.4/images/flows_autoformat.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=yfA3o6U6SThtnLN0\&q=85\&s=f8d448ac96f4ba28a116cb9a72fbda4f) Auto-format and lay out the entire flow canvas. If you select multiple connectors in the workspace, use this to auto-format just the selected connectors.

> [!TIP]
>
> Click the **Flows** breadcrumb link to return to the workspace grid.
>
> The small map in the bottom right corner of the flow canvas shows silhouettes of the connectors in the workspace. The current view of the canvas is represented by the white rectangle in the map. As you move around the canvas, the white rectangle also moves, so you always have a high level picture of where you are in the workspace.

## Workspace Settings

Workspace Settings are a set of tabs that enable you to control specific settings on a per-workspace basis. To open, hover over a workspace card and click **Settings** in the ellipsis menu, or open a workspace and click **Settings** in the toolbar ellipsis menu. Use the tabs on the right side of the panel to switch between categories.

![Workspace settings panel](https://mintcdn.com/cdata-arc/d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE/26.4/images/workspace_settings.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=d_uxoDpYg8BiVilE\&q=85\&s=d5fb3d0f5845ee3563b7d587e6e9837b)

For the Alerts, Performance, and Cleanup categories, you must use the **Override Global Settings** toggle for the workspace-specific settings to take effect. These settings are a subset of the options on the [Settings page](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/settings/settings-page.md). You can configure:

* [Alerts](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/settings/alerts.md)
* [Performance Settings](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/settings/performance-settings.md)
* [Cleanup Settings](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/settings/cleanup-settings.md)
* [Git Version Control](https://docs.arc.cdata.com/26.4/cloud/en/getting-started/administration/git-version-control.md): Use the **Enable Git Version Control** toggle to turn on Git version control for the workspace (not available in the [Default](#default-workspace) workspace).
* Miscellaneous: Enables you to configure hidden connector settings in a semicolon-separated list (for example, `setting1=value1;setting2=value2`). Normal connector use cases and functionality should not require the use of these settings.

### Allowing ArcScript in the Alert Subject

On the **Alerts** tab, select **Allow ArcScript in Subject** to use [ArcScript](../scripting) in the alert email subject. When this setting is enabled, a `</>` button appears in the **Subject** field. Click the button to open the ArcScript editor.

The **Allow ArcScript in Subject** setting is available at the application, workspace, and connector levels. If the setting is configured at both the workspace and connector levels, the connector setting overrides the workspace setting.
